{"id":160,"date":"2015-05-18T17:00:41","date_gmt":"2015-05-18T17:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/freaksoftechnology.com\/?p=160"},"modified":"2015-05-18T17:00:41","modified_gmt":"2015-05-18T17:00:41","slug":"letter-to-a-friend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/freaksoftechnology.com\/?p=160","title":{"rendered":"Letter to a Friend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I hear, see, feel your complaint<br \/>\nAnd know it\u2019s completely legitimate.<br \/>\nUnwanted male attention is annoying<br \/>\nAnd can be scary<br \/>\nAs entitlement has been known to turn violent<br \/>\nWhen thwarted.<br \/>\nBut still I wish<br \/>\nA phone number was all I received<br \/>\nFrom the construction workers<br \/>\nOutside *my* home.<\/p>\n<p>Instead<br \/>\nWhat I got was a photo glued to the front of my building<br \/>\nOf a man in a women\u2019s bathing suit<br \/>\nLooking just like the one I\u2019d been wearing around my apartment<br \/>\nBecause it was so damn hot<br \/>\nThat August.<\/p>\n<p>I kept the windows shut and my shades closed in my apartment<br \/>\nEveryday<br \/>\nFor nine months.<br \/>\nAnd when I dared to venture out and show myself<br \/>\nIn the light of day<br \/>\nMale laughter would waft over the chain-link fence like the smell of hot creosote.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been almost four years now<br \/>\nAnd still<br \/>\nAlthough my headphones are on<br \/>\nWhenever I pass by a construction site<br \/>\nI feel my muscles tense<br \/>\nAnd my jaw clench<br \/>\nAs I walk a little faster, with more purpose.<br \/>\nMeanwhile<br \/>\nThat bathing suit<br \/>\nSits in a bag at the back of my closet<br \/>\nCrumpled in on itself<br \/>\nUntouched.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I hear, see, feel your complaint And know it\u2019s completely legitimate.
